The last three months have been a real whirlwind, but one great thing that came out of 2020 was the addition of James to our team!

Just like Dan, James is a grad from the Old School Barbering Program at London School in Vancouver. We are stoked to have one of Nanaimo’s newest barbers as part of the Heavy D crew.

Here are some fun facts about the newest face around the shop:

Where are you from?

I’ve lived all over Canada, but my family is in Okanagan now. We have a farm in the Armstrong area.

Why did you want to become a barber?

I had some bad experiences as a kid getting my hair cut. I wanted to learn how so I could help people have a better time in the chair.

What’s your favourite cut?

I was trained in old school styles, so I like the classics a lot. Disconnected cuts and the edgier styles are pretty new to me, so I like the challenge of those too.

What should clients know about you?

If I’m not talking during the service, it’s because I’m concentrating really hard.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I like being outside. Camping and hiking mostly. I’ve also started to take up fly fishing.

What’s your favourite part about Vancouver Island so far?

The outdoors. I have been using the All Trails site to find good spots close to Nanaimo.

Random question: Do you have a celebrity doppelgänger?

I don’t think so. Shannon says I look like Anthony Carrigan, but I’m not too sure about that.

Anything else you’d like to add?

I’m just glad to be here and cutting hair! So, book in for a cut! I have also been working on my Instagram page, so check that out if you want to see examples of my work.
