Earlier this summer, we were asked by Dave at That 50’s Barber Shop if we’d be interested in helping out with the Fresh Start Program this year.

The program, which has been going 7 years strong, helps underprivileged kids in Nanaimo by sending them back to school with a fresh haircut and a backpack of new supplies.

We began reaching out to our Departure Bay community in early August for donations, and the response was overwhelming! We were able to raise hundreds of dollars and collect over 50 backpacks for the event.

Historically, the event has been hosted at Dave’s shop. But this year, the Nanaimo Public Library got involved and we were invited to cut down at their Habourfront location.

The event wrapped up this weekend, and it was awesome. It felt really good to be downtown as a team helping out, and we look forward to next year.

Here’s the event recap from the Nanaimo News Bulletin if you’d like to learn more!

I’ll link all the pertinent info below if you’d like to read up on how to get involved next year. Thanks again for all the support Nanaimo!
