Where are you from?

I grew up in Victoria, but I’ve been all over… Tofino, Kelowna and Calgary. After spending so much time on the Island, I had a rough time with the snow in Alberta. We came back to the island a couple of years ago. This is the second time I’ve lived in Nanaimo, I went to hair school at VIU in 2000.

What do you love about living in Nanaimo?

I love how central it is. Only a couple of hours to Vic, Tofino, or Campbell River. We like to go on day trips, so we just pick a direction and go.

Why did you decide to become a barber?

I really like people. I also enjoy listening to the stories my clients share with me. There are lots of different aspects of being a good barber. I think it’s not just about great haircuts, it’s about connecting with people.

What’s your favorite haircut right now?

I don’t have a “favorite haircut” although I prefer taking it shorter rather than leaving it longer based on functionality. At the end of the day, the shorter you cut, the longer it lasts. But it’s whatever haircut my client asks for and focusing on making that cut look awesome. I do appreciate it when a client trusts me enough to say “do whatever you think will look the best.”

What’s something you’d like future clients to know about you?

Whatever they want to know… Come in, get a chop and ask whatever questions you have for me! Barbershops are a community hub. They bring people together, it’s a meeting place. Come in and have a seat in the shop and you will have a chance to get to know your neighbors and other folks in the community.

Enough about work, what do you do for fun?

I’d like to travel. Opening up a new business can sure slow that down! I also enjoy being in and on the water. Surfing and swimming define summertime for me.

Is there a podcast/book/movie you’d recommend?

Joe Rogan is the podcast I listen too the most, I usually skip the MMA episodes though. I like listening to the musicians and hunters (Remi Warren episode is a must hear!) As far as movies go, The Big Lebowski is a classic around the shop. I could watch that one over and over.

Anything else you’d like to add?

Nope. That pretty much sums it up! If anyone has any questions feel free to pop by our shop and ask!
