Dan "Heavy D"

Dan "Heavy D"

Owner / Barber

Heavy D is Vancouver Island born and raised. After graduating from the hair dressing program at VIU in 2001, he started his career as a stylist. After a few years of salon work, he decided to pursue his interest in cars and became a mechanic. During his 6 year career at Long Beach Automotive, he kept his barbering skills sharp by cutting hair on the side. He realized in 2014 that he wanted to commit to barbering full-time, and completed the Old School Barbering Program at London School in Vancouver. Since then, he has had the opportunity to work in some great shops. From Plan B Headquarters in Kelowna, to South Trail Crossing Barbershop in Calgary, Heavy D has learned a lot about the industry. He wants his clients to have an experience each time they see him, and always strives to make each service better than the last.

Shannon

Shannon

Owner / Apprentice Barber

Heavy D grew up by the ocean, but Shannon is a prairie girl through and through. She was raised in Red Deer Alberta, and received her Bachelors Degree from the U of C in 2012. After graduating, she began a holistic health journey and fell in love with fitness and healthy eating. She followed this new passion to Kelowna where she completed the Natural Nutrition program at C.S.N.N. in  2015. It was there where she met Heavy D, and the couple made the move to Nanaimo in November of 2018. Shannon is the lady behind Heavy D’s social media, and is always around the shop to help keep things running smoothly. She is currently working on leveling up her photography skills, and enjoys taking pictures around the city with her Sony a6000.

Nick

Nick

Barber

Nick grew up in New Brunswick, and moved to Montreal in 2017 to begin his career in hair. He completed the barbering program at the Ecole de Coiffure Internationale, and has been working in the industry ever since. He was motivated to become a barber to help people feel and look their best. Although he enjoys working with clippers, his favourite style is creating mid length scissor cuts. When he’s not in the shop, he likes to explore the scenery of Vancouver Island. He is a big pro wrestling fan, and enjoys spending his free time cooking and listening to music.

Sabeana

Sabeana

Barber

Sabeana made the move from Calgary to Vancouver Island a couple of years ago and has been on the Heavy D team since April of 2022! She earned her Red Seal Journeyman Certificate in haircutting back in 2011. At the time, she was a student at the Delmar College of Hair and Esthetics. She discovered a passion for cutting men’s hair during the program, and moved right into barbering following graduation. From skin fades to mullets, Sabeana has done it all. She brings a decade of experience to the shop and we are stoked to have her here. On her days off, you can find her enjoying the ocean views with her fiancé and her Olde English bulldog, Mack.
